About Self-Help
Self-Help is a community development lender, credit union, and real estate developer that works with individuals, organizations and communities traditionally underserved by conventional markets. The funds that support our work come from deposits, grants, and other
investments made by individuals and institutions across the U.S.
Self-Help and Self-Help Federal Credit Unions We offer responsible consumer products and services including auto loans, ATMs, credit cards, home equity products, debit cards, checking accounts, and convenient teller services in more than a dozen communities in North Carolina and California.
Self-Help: Invested in Durham Self-Help joins with individuals and organizations throughout Durham. Self-Help works to 'create and protect ownership and economic opportunity'. We have invested over $275 million in Durham County over the last 30 years. Click here to see our new brochure, "Self-Help: Invested in Durham".
Home & Small Business Lending Through direct home lending, our secondary market program, and our commercial lending, we have provided more than $5 billion in financing to more than 55,000 homebuyers and small businesses nationwide. We believe that owning a home or business enables families to send a child to college, weather a financial crisis or save for future generations.
Community Facilities Lending We finance charter schools, daycare centers and other nonprofits because a good education and a strong community are fundamental to the success of our economy.
Real Estate Development We revitalize residential neighborhoods and commercial properties to spur growth and investment.
Socially Responsible Investments We offer competitive rates of return on federally insured savings and money market accounts, CDs and IRAs. We use your deposit dollars to fund mortgages and small business loans to women, minorities, rural residents, and low-wealth families.
Policy We support policies and practices that protect the wealth we help our constituents build.
