ROGERS NOW SERVES WAKE AND NOTHERN JOHNSTON COUNTIES

Louis Rogers has taken on the role of Director of Business Development at Self-Help Ventures Fund for Wake and northern Johnston counties. Rogers relocated to Raleigh from Self-Help's Wilmington office and will continue to serve that area and eastern North Carolina as well. Joe Osowski will continue to serve the Triangle area as a Senior 504 Loan Officer.

Rogers will be responsible for seeking opportunities with lenders on SBA 504 loans. As you know, the program is a partnership between the SBA, Self-Help and banks or other commercial lenders offering small businesses with low long-term, fixed-rate financing for commercial real estate and equipment. Projects range up to $12 million for manufacturers, with as little as 10 to 20 percent owner equity investment, typically in cash or land.

Prior to joining Self-Help as a commercial loan officer in 2001, Rogers was a loan officer for the State Employees Credit Union and a business counselor for the Small Business and Technology Development Center.

Rogers earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1992, with a concentration in banking and marketing. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in international business from UNC-Wilmington's Cameron School of Business.

Rogers has been active in many community and professional organizations, including: Partnership for Economic Inclusion, N.C. Black Chamber of Commerce, Hispanic CDC of Southeast N.C., State Employees Credit Union, Affordable Housing Coalition of Wilmington, and the Wilmington Rotary Club.

You may reach Louis Rogers at (919) 755-2232 or
louis.rogers@self-help.org. His office is at 19 W. Hargett St., Suite 507, in Raleigh. You may reach Joe Osowski at (800) 476-7428 or joe.osowski@self-help.org.
GERRY BLOOD: AN APPRECIATION
By Jim Overton, Self-Help's SBA 504 Program Director

When Gerry Blood first came to Self-Help in 1996, I have to admit that I was a bit intimidated: He had about five times as much lending experience as I did, and had probably already forgotten more about commercial lending than I had ever learned.

But he never let my inexperience stand in his way, as he dug into eastern North Carolina and began putting his considerable skills to work on providing small business loans to deserving businesses in and around Greenville. Soon he had built a solid office, an excellent staff - and a track record second to none of helping lenders and small businesses both.

Gerry has now decided that his grandkids are far more fun than Self-Help staffers, and has decided to "retire" - though, given his energy level, that word is likely to be woefully inadequate to describe the energetic lifestyle we know Gerry will keep. We wish him all the best in maintaining his dynamic schedule - and only hope we can pursue life with an iota of his enthusiasm.

Fortunately, we have a great replacement for Gerry. Adelcio Lugo has been working for us in Greenville as a mortgage officer, and will now become the branch director. After he's had time to settle in, he'll be up to snuff on 504 loans and ready to step into Gerry's shoes.

If you want to contact Gerry to wish him luck in his new stage of life, feel free to e-mail him at:
geraldblood@msn.com. For now, please call me at (919) 956-4473 to discuss 504 projects for eastern North Carolina.

You may reach Adelcio Lugo at (800) 893-9669 or
adelcio.lugo@self-help.org.
