101 Environmental Stewardship Intern

The Organization
Self-Help is a community development lender founded in 1980 that creates and protects ownership and economic opportunity for minority, women-headed, rural and low-wealth families through home and small business lending. It has provided over $5.5 billion in financing to help more than 62,000 low-wealth borrowers buy homes, start and build businesses, and strengthen community resources across the country. Self-Help’s affiliate, the Center for Responsible Lending, researches and advocates for state and national legislation to address predatory lending practices and policies.
Self-Help and the Center for Responsible Lending are national organizations based out of Durham, North Carolina with offices in North Carolina, Washington DC, and California. Nationally and internationally recognized as a leader in community development lending, Self-Help is one of twelve nonprofits featured in Forces for Good: The Six Practices of High Impact Nonprofits.
Major Duties:
- Review and update the Disaster Recovery Plan
- Incorporate the disaster recovery plan from newly merged credit unions into the larger Self-Help plan
- Verify emergency contact names and numbers
- Verify company/vendor contacts
- Stock our offsite storage space
- Make copies of document for offsite storage
- Create electronic copies for offsite alternative storage
- Work with Team Leaders to verify and update information in the Disaster Recovery Plan
- Initiate a phase 1 impact study to assess Self-Help’s environmental footprint
- Gather data
- Conduct staff interviews
- Build phase 1 footprint analysis
- Present analysis with recommendations for improvement
- Study should cover material sourcing and use, business related travel and transportation, and other internal resource usage
- Individual may be asked to do other temporary tasks which could include copying, routine computer activities, telephone support and other administrative tasks.

- Prior experience in an office environment is desired
