Hours: Full-Time; 10 weeks

Direct/Related Experience: Required

Education Status Preferred: Undergraduate or Graduate

Salary:  $12.00/hr. for Undergraduate Students, $14.00/hr. for Graduate Students

 

The Organization

Self-Help is a community development lender founded in 1980 that creates and protects ownership and economic opportunity for minority, women-headed, rural and low-wealth families through home and small business lending.  It has provided over $5.5 billion in financing to help more than 62,000 low-wealth borrowers buy homes, start and build businesses, and strengthen community resources across the country.  Self-Help’s affiliate, the Center for Responsible Lending, researches and advocates for state and national legislation to address predatory lending practices and policies. 

 

Self-Help and the Center for Responsible Lending are national organizations based out of Durham, North Carolina with offices in North Carolina, Washington DC, and California. Nationally and internationally recognized as a leader in community development lending, Self-Help is one of twelve nonprofits featured in Forces for Good: The Six Practices of High Impact Nonprofits.

 

Major Duties:

  • Create a marketing/PR plan for Residential Real Estate
    • Focus on charting the history and successes of Self-Help CDC as well as providing information on current development efforts.
    • Integrate traditional and new media
    • Ensure the plan is organized and transferable- a process that can be adapted and used repeatedly by the organization
  • Create a cohesive online presence for Self-Help CDC, primarily through redesign of the Residential Real Estate section of the Self-Help website.
  • Assist in planning and documentation of major events held by Self-Help CDC and it’s partners
  • Assist in implementation of “Telling our Stories” campaign with the Duke Office of Community Affairs
  • Data Entry

 

Additional Skills Needed:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Desktop publishing
  • Website editing/design
  • Excellent written skills- press release and copy writing
  • Familiarity with digital video creation and editing
  • Data entry and database query
