Charter School Facilities Loans

Charter schools are tuition-free public schools that are given greater flexibility in return for greater accountability for educational results.  One of the biggest challenges charter schools face is gaining access to funding to build, purchase, or renovate a school facility.

Self-Help sees quality charter schools as a natural fit with our mission to create ownership and economic opportunity for people of color, women, rural residents, and low-wealth families and communities.  Since 1997, we have loaned over $100 million to 44 charter schools in 11 states.

Who We Serve

We make loans of $500,000 or more to high-performing charter schools serving at-risk students and low-wealth communities nationwide.

What We Offer

Self-Help offers a range of flexible loan products designed to meet the individual needs of our borrowers. We have the financial capacity to handle multi-million dollar loan requests, as well as the ability to tap into a variety of credit enhancement programs designed to ease financing challenges.  Our charter school loan officers understand the business side of running a school and will work with you through the application process and beyond.

Self-Help provides financing to charter schools for a wide range of purposes including:

  • Purchase of a facility or land
  • Construction of a new facility
  • Renovations or expansions
  • Permanent take out of construction loans
