Electrify ABC Loans

Affordable Energy Financing in Western North Carolina

This special loan is available only for Electrify Asheville-Buncombe County (Electrify ABC) program participants.

Loan Rates 

Rates effective as of April 1, 2024. 
Rates are updated at the beginning of each quarter.

 5.75% - 8.75% APR*                  

* APR = Annual Percentage Rate 

There is an Electrify ABC program participation fee of 2.99% of the loan amount. This fee can be financed into the loan.

 

   
Electrify ABC Loan Benefits:

  • Subsidized rates to save you money. 

  • Access for people with low or limited credit. 

  • Straightforward terms.

Qualifying Energy Saving Improvements:

  • High-efficiency heat pumps—including using up to 30% of the loan for related electrical upgrades. 

  • Heat pump hot water heaters. 

  • Air sealing and insulation.  

  • Energy-saving projects for mobile homes. 

   

How to get started

You have two choices:

You can start by applying to get preapproved for a loan.

That means we’ll determine how big a loan you qualify for. Once you’ve been preapproved and know your budget, you can search the Electrify ABC marketplace to find a participating contractor.

In the application, enter any amount for Loan Amount and enter your preferred term length (60, 120 or 180 months) for Loan Term.

OR...

You can start by finding a participating Electrify ABC contractor and getting a bid for your project.

We’ll ask you to submit the bid along with your loan application.

    

Ready to apply?  

Here’s what you’ll need: 

  • A copy of your driver's license or other ID.

  • Proof of income: your most recent paystub (for W2 earners) OR copies of your last two tax returns (for self-employed people). 

  • Mobile-home owners only: A copy of your DMV registration as proof of ownership, if the home is not on a permanent foundation. 

  • If you already have a bid from an Electrify ABC participating contractor, you’ll need a copy of the bid.

  • If you are not already a Self-Help Credit Union member, you'll need to become one. The loan application will walk you through it. You'll need to open a deposit account with an initial deposit of at least $5.
