Self-Help's Payday Loan Escape Program

Welcome Self-Help's Payday Loan Escape program which is designed to help you refinance out of your high-cost payday debt with a lower-cost loan from Prosper.com.  Self-Help developed this how-to guide to help you through the steps of this program.  You should have already spoken with Consumer Credit Counseling Service of San Fransisco (CCCSSF) about Self-Help's Payday Loan Escape. If you have not already spoken with CCCSSF, please contact them at 800.777.7526 (PLAN) Monday-Friday, between 9am and 5pm PST.

Program Steps

After your initial counseling session with CCCSSF you will need to complete the following steps.  More detailed information about each step can be found by clicking the green tabs to the left.

  1. Register on Prosper
  2. Have a follow up counseling session with CCCSSF. Before this session, you will need to read and sign the Borrower Agreement and Release of Information Form (PDF) and fax or send it to Self-Help.
  3. Create your Prosper loan listing
  4. Monitor your loan listing and get funded
  5. End your payday debt and begin making payments on your Prosper loan
