Oct 13, 2025

Self-Help Federal Annual Meeting Celebrates the Legacy of Lower Valley Credit Union and its Commitment to Underserved Communities

[Yakima, WA] On Wednesday, October 15, from 5:30 – 7:00 pm, Self-Help Federal Credit Union will host its annual meeting of the membership at 900 Yakima Valley Hwy, Sunnyside, WA 98944. This year’s theme is Celebrating Community and features local food and entertainment that recognizes what makes Central Washington special.

Three members of the Self-Help Federal Credit Union board of directors will be nominated. Speakers at the event include Antonia Mende, a HUD-certified counselor at Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) of Washington who guides clients through the complexities of first-time homebuyer purchases, foreclosure prevention, and financial education; and Tonantzintla “Tona” Chacón, executive director of the Community for the Advancement of Family Education (CAFÉ), a non-profit organization that advances family and community growth through education by providing opportunities in leadership, civic and social engagement, literacy development, and academic advancement.

Self-Help Federal Credit Union first expanded to Central Washington in 2021 after a merger with Lower Valley Credit Union (LVCU), which was founded to support underserved farm workers, laborers, and seasonal employees. Self-Help is honored to support the legacy of LVCU and the annual meeting is an opportunity to celebrate its success, share the past year’s accomplishments, and look ahead to the future.
