With a mission of creating and protecting homeownership and economic opportunity for all, Jax Metro, a division of Self-Help Credit Union (www.self-help.org) is pleased to announce the official opening of its newly constructed, full service branch in the River City Marketplace, located at 13134 Wolf Bay Drive, Jacksonville.

On Monday, March 15, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Self-Help will host a virtual celebration featuring an online tour of the facility on each of its social media platforms. The first 50 vehicles through its drive-thru will receive an opening gift.

The new branch brings added functionality and convenience to the North Jacksonville community, with the added value of being backed by one of the largest community development financial institutions in the country.  Services available at this branch include:

  • Checking and savings accounts
  • Home mortgage loans
  • Auto and personal loans
  • Check cashing and depositing
  • Small business loans

“We have two certified financial coaches on the team, and a financial wellness counselor,” explains Megan Nissley, Self-Help Credit Union area branch manager.  “We plan to offer financial literacy courses in our conference room on a recurring schedule to members and interested borrowers.

“We also hope to implement a Self-Help@Work program to employees of local businesses in the area,” Nissley adds. “The program would allow us to offer financial education courses at their place of business as an added benefit to their employee benefits package.”

The site, at northwest Airport Center and Wolf Bay Drives at River City Marketplace, will also include a drive-up ATM and a video teller. The 2,353-square-foot building sits on 1.05 acres. There is also a free electric vehicle charging station available.

“Our mission is not only to strengthen homeownership and financially empower our members but also to invest in the communities where they work and live,” states Adelcio Lugo, Self-Help Credit Union regional director. “The River City branch marks a new chapter in Self-Help’s transformative community work in northeast Florida and expands our legacy of local impact to North Jacksonville.”

Self-Help’s mission is to broaden homeownership and economic opportunity among underserved communities, including women, people of color and low minimum wage families, by providing access to basic financial services and products, including mortgages for first-time home buyers and commercial loans for small businesses.

Located in North Jacksonville, the River City Marketplace is an open-air town center located near the Jacksonville International Airport. The new branch design was developed by Dunn and Dalton Architects, a North Carolina based firm known for “cost effective design solutions that are functional and aesthetically pleasing,” as well as for being “flexible in their approach to design.”  Construction was completed by the Jacksonville based, Breaking Ground Contracting, a woman-owned enterprise that is a recognized leader in sustainable construction and for their commitment to environmentally conscious construction.
