Self-Help assists low-wealth families to achieve greater economic independence thanks to our many financial supporters.  We rely on charitable gifts and grants from individuals and institutions to maximize our impact.  Our staff provides thousands of hours of technical assistance to people trying to start child care centers and charter schools.  We spend considerable time counseling first-time homebuyers, and small business entrepreneurs.  We work collaboratively with many other groups on innovative community investment projects.  And we focus a great deal of effort on combating predatory lending practices, through our affiliate, the Center for Responsible Lending.
