Community Scholarships

Supporting Students in Our Communities

Through our Self-Help Community Scholarship program, each Self-Help branch provides one $1,000 scholarship per year to a local student. The application period runs from March 1 to March 31 of each year.

Community Scholarship Program Purpose

To provide financial assistance to those who have committed to improving their lives and their community by furthering their education.

Scholarship Program Information

Through the annual Self-Help Community Scholarship program, each Self-Help branch awards one $1,000 scholarship each year to a local student.

The program is open to students planning to attend or currently attending any post-secondary educational institution including universities, colleges, technical schools, and trade and vocational institutions.

Note: Self-Help employees, board members, and their family members are not eligible.

The application period runs from March 1 - March 31 of each year. Applicants must complete and submit a short online scholarship application by the deadline for an opportunity to be awarded $1,000.

A selection committee of three or more Self-Help staff members reviews each application. The committee meets as soon as possible after the application deadline to review and assess all applications. Once a decision is made, the scholarship recipient is notified by the committee.

IMPORTANT: Scholarship recipients have 10 business days to respond and accept the award. If an applicant does not respond, a new applicant will be selected and awarded.

The scholarship will be paid directly to your school and may be used for tuition, room, board, books, or materials. A letter of acceptance or proof of enrollment is required from the selected scholarship recipient before funds can be awarded.
