June was National Homeownership Month, and we are always thrilled to find ways to celebrate our amazing members who have worked hard to achieve their dreams of homeownership. Many of us grew up with the idea that we might own a house by a certain age, but in today’s housing market, it can feel impossible to make those dreams a reality.

That’s why we’re excited to celebrate Dominic Ortiz’s story.

Dominic Ortiz had goals for himself – become a father at a young age and own a house by the time he was 25. He accomplished his first goal by becoming a loving father to two kids, but he wasn’t sure that he would make it to his homeownership goal anytime soon. When the landlord of his rental suddenly had to end the lease, Dominic decided that it was at least worth trying to find out if homeownership was an option. But he didn’t just want this for himself anymore. He wanted his kids to have more space to roam and play.

Dominic worked with Marisela at Self-Help to apply for a mortgage without knowing what to expect. However, Dominic was driven throughout the process. With Marisela’s partnership, everything went faster and smoother than anticipated. He had the keys to his new house in less than a month! He is so excited to be a first-time homeowner and have a place that he, his fiancée and kids can call their own. Congratulations, Dominic!
