People First: Celebrating International Credit Union Day

By Staff
October 15, 2026

According to the World Council of Credit Unions, International Credit Union (ICU) Day® celebrates the spirit of the global credit union movement. The goal is to raise awareness about the tremendous work that credit unions and financial cooperatives are doing around the world and to share members’ experiences.

This year, the theme is “Cooperative Finance: A Steady Signal in a Noisy World,” because while the landscape shifts, credit unions and financial cooperatives remain consistent. We are focused on building trust and investing in our members and communities.

Remaining Steady

As a community-oriented credit union, we aim to remain a steady source of support for our members by providing:

  • Wealth & Wellness: Free financial coaching, FICO® credit score reviews, credit building products, financial wellness resources, and more to help our members achieve their financial goals.
  • Responsible, affordable loans: Home loans that require as little as a 1% contribution, credit builder loans to help you raise your score, green loans to improve access to clean energy products, and more.
  • Supporting our communities: Community partnerships allow us to create impact at a larger scale, strategic initiatives support economic opportunity, and community development lending programs allow us to provide funding for projects that help communities thrive.

Celebrating Our Members

At Self-Help, our mission of ownership and economic opportunity for all is inspired by the perseverance and fortitude of our incredible members. Our work would not be possible without them.

It would take a lifetime to collect the story of every amazing member that comes through our doors, but here are a few that we have had the honor of sharing:

We are honored to be a credit union that has the ability to work with so many incredible communities. We strive to continue being a steady resource for our members. Happy International Credit Union Day!
