Important Account Information: Even Easier Access to Your Funds During COVID-19

You’re part of the Self-help family and we want to make sure you're taken care of. In these unsettling times, we're looking out for members by taking the following steps, all of which will be in place through June 30:

  • Waiving all early withdrawal penalties on term certificate (CD) and club accounts.
  • Removing our monthly limit on IRA withdrawals for members of a qualified age (IRS penalties still apply for members under the age of 59½).
  • Refunding the $5.00 monthly maintenance fee on individual checking accounts.
  • Eliminating excessive ATM withdrawal fees.
  • Eliminating shared branching withdrawal fees.
  • Making it easier to deposit checks from the safety of your own home using our mobile app.

If you do not have an ATM or debit card, we advise you to get one as soon as possible. This will help you avoid unnecessary contact with others while ensuring uninterrupted access to cash in your accounts.

Don't forget you can also access mobile, telephone and online banking around the clock from the safety of your home.

Loan Relief for SHCU Borrowers
As we seek to protect our members’ health and safety during the COVID-19 outbreak, we also are taking immediate action to help provide financial relief. Self-Help Credit Union members who currently have a consumer loan with us may be eligible to delay loan payments with no credit penalty.

To be eligible, you must be experiencing hardship directly related to COVID-19.

This offer applies to current, personal loans (car loans, share-secured loans, and other consumer loans). An application is required. Applications are available here

Members may email completed applications to SHCallCenter@self-help.org, or apply by phone by calling our Recovery Support Team at 1-919-956-4404. Self-Help CU branch lobbies are now closed for your protection, but we will also be happy to accept applications at drive-through windows at our branches. Update on Self-Help Branch Service

Our 123 West Main St. branch (Durham, NC) and our Rosman, NC branch are both closed.

For all other branches, access to branch lobbies is restricted until further notice. Where available, drive-thru and ATM services remain open and fully functional. You can find more information about Self-Help branch accessibility here and you can find branch locations here.

We encourage you to use mobile banking and online banking as much as possible. These services are available 24/7 and allow you to make payments, view transactions, check account balances and more. If you need help with these services, please call our Member Services team at 1-800-966-7353.

A Message For Our Members, Borrowers and Lending Partners

You’re part of the Self-Help family and we want you to know your health and well-being is a top priority. As we monitor the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and the situation continues to evolve, we are committed to remain responsive to your financial needs.

Members, you can access your account 24/7 through online or mobile banking, where you can make payments, view transactions, check account balances and more. Member Services is also available by phone at 1-800-966-7353, Monday through Thursday, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Not yet signed up for mobile banking? Member Services can help. Be sure to give them a call.

We encourage you to take advantage of these online resources. We have also taken several precautionary measures at each of our branches to ensure we are following best practices to mitigate risks for our team and the public. Drive-up teller service is also available at many branches. We ask that you please refrain from visiting a branch lobby if you are not feeling well.

We’re here to help find solutions and understand that the impact of COVID-19 may affect areas beyond your control. There may be instances where you find you’re facing financial difficulties. Our team is here to help.

  • Mortgage borrowers can call our hotline at 800-747-3209. We can offer financial guidance and discuss options and solutions that may be available to you.
  • Car loans, signature loans and other consumer borrowers can determine what options may be available by calling our collections team at 919-956-4404.
  • Commercial loan borrowers can contact their loan officer or commercial loan servicing at 1-800-747-3215. Please also see this message for our commercial loan borrowers.
  • SBA 504 borrowers, call 919-956-4449 (ask for 504 servicing).
