Ribbon Cutting at Revolution Mill

Revolution Mill in Greensboro, N.C.

In May we joined multiple partners, residents and stakeholders in a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the completion of the second phase of development for Revolution Mill, a multi-year project led by Self-Help’s Real Estate team to develop Greensboro’s historic cotton mill by the same name. First constructed in 1898, Revolution Mill would eventually become the nation's largest flannel mill but had been out of operation since 1982. Self-Help first began work on Revolution Mill in 2012, creating 600,000 sf of commercial space, 150 mixed-income apartments, creative studios, galleries and public community amenities as part of the first phase of development. This second phase has been in the works since 2018, turning a 145,000-square-foot historic building into a dynamic mixed-use hub featuring 33 mixed-income residential units and a diverse mix of commercial tenants, entrepreneurs, and a new restaurant. The project created an estimated 315 construction jobs and 323 new permanent jobs in the process. There were many hands involved in this project. It’s gorgeous, and we’re thrilled.

Celebrating at the ribbon cutting for Revolution Mill are Greensboro Council Members Tammi Thurm (L), and Goldie Wells (R) with Deputy City Manager, Christian (Chris) Wilson (center).
