Protecting Your Deposits

As a member-owned, mission-driven credit union, our top priority is the well-being of our members.

Insured Deposits: All deposits in Self-Help Credit Union are automatically insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) for up to $250,000. This means that if Self-Help were ever to face a collapse, the federal government would step in to ensure that every depositor gets their deposits back (up to $250,000 per depositor). Since the creation of NCUA in 1970, credit union members have never lost a single penny of insured deposits.

Financial Strength: We’ve provided safe, stable and reliable financial services for more than 40 years. We are fiscally conservative and maintain high capital levels.

  • Net worth: Net worth is the reserves a financial institution holds to protect its depositors from potential losses. Self-Help is currently in the 99th percentile for net worth, meaning we have more net worth than the vast majority of credit unions in the country.
  • Liquidity: We maintain a high cash-to-deposits ratio to ensure that we always have the liquidity to provide members with their deposits on demand, even if withdrawal demand rises unexpectedly. Self-Help Credit Union's current cash-to-deposits ratio is 17%, well above the industry average of 7%.
Because of our financial strength, we stand ready to accept additional deposits from our members. Our term certificates offer rates that are above industry averages and are a great choice for members looking for a safe and reliable place to deposit funds. Your deposits are insured up to the NCUA insurance limits of $250,000 for an individual account and $500,000 for joint accounts.

If you’d like to deposit additional funds or have questions about your account or NCUA deposit insurance, please contact us.

Thank you for your membership.
